On June 16-17, 2021, online trainings were held at Baku State University (BSU) within the framework of the EU-Council of Europe Partnership for Good Governance Partnership II (PGGII) project “Raising Awareness on the Istanbul Convention and Other Gender Equality Standards in Azerbaijan”. The trainings are intended for candidates who will be trainers in the Council of Europe's HELP course on "Violence against women and domestic violence" at the Faculty of Law of BSU.

BSU told Tehsil.biz that the aim of the project is to raise awareness of the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) and other standards of gender equality in order to bring local legislation and policies in line with European standards.

The moderator, Parvana Bayramova, Project Manager of the Baku Office of the Council of Europe, and Martha Beserr, Head of the Council of Europe's Capacity Building and Cooperation Projects Department, briefed the participants on the training and wished them success.

Speaking at the training, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Amir Aliyev, thanked the organizers for their support in holding the event. Emphasizing that measures on violence against women and domestic violence and the issues arising from it are very important for the Faculty of Law, Amir Aliyev stressed the importance of such training for the staff of the faculty. He noted that there is a special master's program on "Human Rights" at the Faculty of Law and a special subject "Women's and Children's Rights" is included in this program, the subject is implemented by the UNESCO Department of "Human Rights and Information Law" under the Faculty of Law. Amir Aliyev noted that a new subject on "Combating Domestic Violence" was added to the bachelor's curriculum at the Faculty of Law.
