The Baku Music Academy named after Uzeyir Hajibayli (BMA) hosted the Nizami Romances Competition-Festival with the support of the Ministry of Education.
The competition-festival, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of BMA, was held as part of the action plan for the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi" and was attended by young composers aged 18-35, currently studying composition or graduates in composition.
The artistic director of the competition-festival was People's Artist, Rector of BMA Farhad Badalbeyli. A jury of well-known, prominent Azerbaijani composers and philologists was formed to select new works written by young composers.
It should be noted that one of the main goals of the competition is to promote Nizami poetry in the way of thinking and creativity of modern young composers, to study it in depth, to infect and develop the creative spirit. Taking this into account, a book of young composers' collection "Nizami Romances" consisting of new works written for the competition was published.
6 nominees were awarded in the competition. Laureate (I, II, III place), Diplomant (IV, V, VI place) and winners were awarded cash prizes. Other participants were awarded honorary diplomas.
