A project on teaching English language has been launched at Mingachevir State University

On August 30, 2021, Mingachevir State University (MSU) launched a project to develop English language teachers in partnership with the US Embassy in Azerbaijan and the Resource Hub called "Move Today, Change Tomorrow."

Speaking at the opening of the project, which was organized online on the Zoom platform, MSU Rector Shahin Bayramov first of all greeted the participants and wished them success in the project.

Speaking about the strategic goals of the university, the rector noted that in order to improve the quality of higher education services, MSU focuses on the comprehensive development of educators and students.

Expressing confidence that the project will contribute to strengthening academic capacity, Bayramov thanked everyone involved in its organization and implementation and called on participants to be active.

Speaking about the main goals and expected results, the project coordinator Gunel Salayeva said that the main goals are to provide an innovative approach to teaching English teachers at MSU, to increase students' writing and speaking skills.

Noting that 20 teachers and 30 students of MSU took part in the project, Salayeva said that the trainings will be organized in a hybrid format (online and offline).

Emphasizing that the project will prepare demo lessons in cooperation with students and teachers majoring in "Foreign Language Teaching (English)" at MSU, G. Salayeva said that the interactive and innovative teaching aids will be placed in the relevant resource base of the university.

According to the program, on the first day of the training, Halima Fatullayeva, a trainer from the British Council, provided detailed information on communication and listening skills, types and methods of listening development, and participants completed test assignments on practical listening.

Then, Farida Huseynova, Chief Specialist of the Center for Continuing Education and Innovation of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, spoke about the development of reading skills, which is one of the main sections in teaching English, and gave practical instructions.

At the end, relevant assessments were made on the results of the training.

In the following days, the stages and strategies of reading lessons, methods of teaching listening skills, extensive and intensive listening, critical listening and language learning, use of online resources in teaching listening, reading activities and techniques, learning outcomes, analytical reading and text interpretation, reading skills assessment methods and Trainings on other topics are planned.

Within the framework of the project, which will be implemented over four months, trainings will be held for MSU teachers until September 14, and for students and masters in the following months. Relevant monitoring will be carried out on the results of the application of the knowledge and skills acquired by teachers during the project in the teaching of English.

It should be noted that special attention is paid to the implementation of such activities, which serve the comprehensive development of human resources at MSU, which has recently made rapid progress towards modernization.
