A joint conference was held at Nakhchivan State University (NSU) on September 8 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ASPU).

Opening the hybrid conference, which was organized both visually and online on the Zoom platform, NSU Rector Elbrus Isayev congratulated the faculty and students of the Pedagogical University on the 100th anniversary and the development of independent Azerbaijan. He wished them new achievements in their responsible work. The rector said that the university began operating as the Nakhchivan branch of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute in 1967, became the Nakhchivan State Pedagogical Institute in 1972 and Nakhchivan State University in 1990.

Thus, the Nakhchivan branch, as the first higher education institution of the autonomous republic, laid the foundation stone of the future university and had a positive impact on the training of highly qualified personnel and the development of the region as a whole.

E.Isayev stressed that today 6 faculties of the university train teachers in 16 specialties at the bachelor's level. The total number of students majoring in pedagogical specialties is 1311 people. It was noted that 430 people trained in 82 specialties can be included in this category. Elbrus Isayev noted that 18.1% of the staff trained in 88 specialties at the undergraduate level of the university, and in general, 57.6% of all students have a pedagogical profile.

Rector of ADPU, Professor Jafar Jafarov, who joined the event online, brought to the attention of the participants the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev "On the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University" on April 17, 2021. Rector spoke about the continuous expansion of international cooperation and the consistent work carried out to bring scientific and pedagogical education in line with modern standards. It was noted that the Pedagogical University, which has a large scientific and pedagogical staff and a contingent of thousands of students, has played an important role in the socio-cultural development of our country for 100 years, training more than 160,000 highly qualified teachers. It was noted that the methodology of teaching pedagogy, psychology and various subjects was formed at this university.

According to the record, the Pedagogical University has played a key role in the establishment of the vast majority of pedagogical educational institutions in the country, training, improving and retraining pedagogical and scientific-pedagogical staff. Azerbaijan Institute of Education, biennial teachers' institutes operating in 30-40s, Nakhchivan State University, Khankendi Pedagogical Institute, now Ganja State University, Azerbaijan University of Languages ​​and Baku Slavic University were established either on the basis of separate faculties of the Pedagogical Institute or ADPU- were formed with the scientific and medical support of

ADPU Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, Professor Asaf Zamanov noted that well-known scientists, hundreds of prominent scientists, creative intellectuals, public figures and statesmen who have made significant contributions to the development of science and education in Azerbaijan studied at the Pedagogical University.

Head of the Department of Azerbaijan History of NSU, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Zahmat Shahverdiyev said he was proud to be a graduate of the university, which has passed 100 years of glorious path.
Professor of the Department of Mathematical Analysis of ADPU Malikmammad Jabrailov, associate professor of the Department of Chemistry of NSU Akif Aliyev shared their memories about the university.

At the end, the rector of NSU E.Isayev presented the certificate and gift prepared in the name of ADPU, as well as the rector of ADPU prof. Jafarov presented a gift to NSU on behalf of the ADPU staff.
