More than 1,000 schoolchildren were abducted in Nigeria in January-August this year.

This was stated in the report of the international organization "Save the Children", which deals with the protection of children's rights, reports Anadolu Agency. It is noted that most of the abducted students have not yet been found.

Human rights activists say the number of attacks on schools in Nigeria has risen sharply between 2020 and 2021, with many schools closing and the country's education system facing "extreme risk".

Mersi Gichuhi, director of Nigeria's Save the Children, also expressed concern about the attack on schools.

"Attacks on education facilities can be considered an attack on an entire generation," he said.

He stressed that children and women are vulnerable to such attacks.

In Nigeria, children have been forced to drop out of school due to attacks on schools.

In recent months, school abductions have taken place in Benue, Kaduna, Plato, Katsina and Zamfara.

Many schools and universities have been forced to suspend teaching due to the attacks.
