A bust of National Hero Yuri Kovalev was unveiled at Secondary School No. 229 under the Baku City Education Department (BCED).

Tehsil.biz reports that the opening ceremony began with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland.

Chairman of the State Statistics Committee, Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party Tahir Budagov, MPs Mikhail Zabelin, Konul Nurullayeva, Sadagat Valiyeva, Head of the Baku City Education Department Mehriban Valiyeva, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora Fuad Muradov, YAP Nizami district Chairman of the organization Ramil Valibeyov, Deputy Chairman Ramin Ahmadov, Deputy Head of Nizami District Executive Power Yildirim Mehdiyev, Representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Orkhan Badalov, political scientist Rasim Musabayov, family members of the National Hero, public figures, teachers, students and other guests attended.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mehriban Valiyeva said that the heroes who died for the independence and integrity of our lands, such as Yuri Kovalev, a participant in the First Karabakh War, are always an example to the younger generation, and the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland will never be forgotten.

The head of the department said that thanks to the wisdom and great commanding skills of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the liberation of our lands in 44 days laid the foundation for a new stage and period of development in the life of our country. M.Valiyeva noted that 2020 was remembered as the Year of Victory, when historical justice was restored for our people thanks to the decisive steps of Muzaffar Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. He noted the great role of educational institutions in promoting his courage.

Speakers at the event said that the historic victory of our people, united around the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, and the determination of the victorious Azerbaijani army demonstrated our national identity, unity and strength to the whole world. It was also noted that the families of martyrs, veterans and national heroes, who glorified the name of the Motherland and brought great pride and honor to Azerbaijan, were taken care of by our state.

Speaking at the event, the family members of the National Hero thanked for the attention and care.

Afterwards, poems on patriotism, as well as dedicated to National Hero Yuri Kovalyov were performed by schoolchildren, and literary and artistic compositions were demonstrated.
