The US Embassy in Azerbaijan has signed Memorandums of Understanding with Lankaran State University (LSU) and Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ASPU).

Tehsil.biz reports that the signing ceremony of the Memorandum on the opening of the public information and awareness center, known as the "American Corner", which will operate between 2021-2024, was held at the Azerbaijan University of Languages.

The ceremony was opened by the rector of the university, Professor Kamal Abdulla. The rector called the opening of the "American Corners" a commendable initiative, noting that such a center also operates at AUL, and is very useful for students and faculty in terms of the requirements of modern education.

In his speech, US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan Orl Litzenberg said that according to the signed memorandum, two "American Corners" will be opened in Lankaran and Sheki. will play an important role in terms of capacity building, will contribute to capacity building in the field of tourism. The most valuable asset of Azerbaijan is the Azerbaijani people, its people. Therefore, we are focused on supporting the efforts of Azerbaijani citizens to increase their skills and abilities, to create new jobs.

According to him, these centers will provide an opportunity to continue education, learn more about the United States and improve the level of English: "I look forward to visiting Sheki and Lankaran to cut the ribbon of the opening of these centers." The diplomat thanked those who suffered in signing the memorandums.

The Memorandum of Understanding with LSU was signed by US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan Orl Litzenberg and Rector of Lankaran State University, Professor Natig Ibrahimov. After the signing ceremony, Rector Natig Ibrahimov expressed confidence that the signed document will be useful for LSU.

He said that the signed document will add a new color to the scientific life of the university, increase the knowledge of foreign languages ​​and practical skills of students and teachers, increase the opportunities for masters and doctoral students to study abroad. The memorandum also extends to students and graduate students of the Fullbright, Hubert Humphrey Fellowship, etc., which are funded by the US government and operate in 155 countries around the world. will allow you to take advantage of scholarship programs.

Professor Natig Ibrahimov said he was pleased with the mutual cooperation and that the university would create the necessary conditions for the new center, and invited the ambassador to LSU.

It should be noted that the American Center in Baku operates under a special agreement signed in 2007 between the US Embassy and the Azerbaijan University of Languages. In 2017, the Baku American Center was awarded the Gold status. American centers also operate in Azerbaijani cities such as Ganja, Khachmaz, Salyan and Kurdamir. These corners support a number of projects, including English language training, educational advice, home-based training, and cultural and information sessions.
