Baku State University (BSU) hosted a seminar on "Magazine management and basic editorial skills."
Opening the seminar, Mais Suleymanov, head of the Center for Organization of Scientific Activities and Innovations of BSU, spoke about the importance of the seminar and expressed confidence that such events will contribute to the publication of high-quality journals at the University.
Garez Dyke, Editor-in-Chief of Historical Biology (An International Journal of Paleobiology) with 2,259 impact factor Q1, made a presentation on “Journal Management and Key Editorial Skills.” He provided information on issues such as the international recognition of scientific publications, improving the quality of scientific works.
Noting that bibliometric indicators and references are widely used in the evaluation of the activities of researchers, journals and institutions, the analysis of scientific knowledge, G. Dyke noted that this information was collected in a special reference database and processed according to its purpose. The purpose of these analytical-information systems, called the reference index, is an example of the existing systems known in this field in bibliometric and elmmetric research, the Web of Science and Elsevier's Scopus databases. Dyke spoke about the importance of academic and socio-economic forms of impact factors of magazines, noting the importance of accessibility of web pages.
Dyke spoke about the writing of scientific articles, their proper structure and preparation for publication in prestigious scientific journals. During the presentation, the Journal stated that an anonymous (double-blind) review process was used, the author's (authors') personal information was not disclosed to the reviewer, and the reviewer's personal information was not disclosed to the author / authors.
The seminar highlighted the importance of publishing ethics in the process of preparing materials for publication, touched upon the expected rules of style in correspondence with the editorial staff, and clarified the questions raised by the authors.
Speaking at the seminar, Rector of BSU Elchin Babayev spoke about the work done to improve the scientific publications of BSU. In this regard, he stressed the need to bring the published magazines in line with international requirements and ensure their representation in internationally recognized databases. Emphasizing the importance of objective evaluation of the scientific activity of national scientific journals, researchers and institutions, the representation of journals in international scientific databases for comparative analysis of their scientific productivity, the rector made relevant recommendations to improve the quality of articles.
At the end of the presentation, discussions were held on the topic, and the speaker answered the questions of the seminar participants.
