Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the Azerbaijan Theological Institute (ATI), Associate Professor Elnura Azizova delivered a speech at the international symposium on "Religion and Culture Symposium: Religion and Health" organized by the Euphrates University of Turkey.
Speaking on "Hajj as a method of folk medicine in the time of the Prophet", Associate Professor E.Azizova spoke about the traditional methods of folk medicine in the first Islamic society and the role of hajj in the medical tradition of that time, based on early Islamic historical sources.
The rapporteur said that hajamat was not a religious treatment for Muslims, and that bleeding, which has existed in the history of world medicine for more than 3,500 years, was one of the methods of folk medicine used among pre-Islamic Arabs under the name of hajamat. He also stressed that those who have knowledge and skills in this field are allowed to apply, taking into account the general health condition of the patient.
