The city of Lankaran is included in the UNESCO "Network of Creative Cities" list.

According to Tehsil.biz, the candidacy document prepared by the Ministry of Culture with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to UNESCO was submitted to the UNESCO Secretariat.

This network brings together cities that build on creativity - music, art and crafts, design, cinema, literature, digital art and gastronomy. The network sees innovation and creativity as a key factor in the sustainable and more inclusive development of the new urban strategy. The network has aroused great interest in local communities and with the new list reflects the diversity of typology and geographical balance of cities.

For information, 49 cities have joined the Creative Cities Network (UCCN) by the decision of UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azule. The network currently covers 295 cities in 90 countries.

The Ministry of Culture thanks the Permanent Mission to UNESCO and the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO for their support in preparing the candidacy document.

It should be noted that Baku has been a member of the network since 2019 on "design" and Sheki since 2017 on "art and crafts".

It should be noted that the Ministry of Culture is working to include the cultural capital of Azerbaijan Shusha in the network of creative cities.
