A review by international medical experts suggests that children infected with the coronavirus may develop pre-stroke brain damage. In addition, the disease can damage nerve cells and the spine.

The results of the study were published by The Lancet. The study involved 38 children, and scientists were able to determine the negative effects of the virus on the central nervous system with the help of MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).

Abnormal tension of the spine and nerve roots was observed in many patients. This was only seen on MRI. Some children develop spina bifida, which rarely results in paralysis.

Four of the 38 children studied later died of coronavirus. Another 4 children developed thrombus-ischemic disease, and 1 child developed a stroke resulting in multiple brain hemorrhages.
